:happyclap:

The Chinese have started making lots of Japanese WW2 Gear. Mostly they copy the Japanese Nakata repros. I have both, they are almost identical.
Main difference is that the Chinese repros are available in large sizes too. Check the ebay store HIKISHOP on ebay.com for example, good
repros at fairly cheap prices.

Irony is though that its going to be chuffing useless for skirmishing as *no one* will do jap loadouts to provide opposition as its just not 'cool' enough. :)

Well, if no-one fancies doing a Japanese loadout for such Pacific games, I suggest we organise a CiA battle weekend called 'Kiska'

Thats totally lost on me... kiska?

I take it he means the Island in the Pacific which 500 marines landed on and fought over ?

The US (and Canada?) Invaded the island of Kiska. But the japanese had evacuated the island before the americans arrived.
Nevertheless they suffered ~200 (some sources say close to 350) casualties from booby traps, accidents and friendly fire.

I don't know about you, but I've been told that the loadout for next year is Lederhosen...

Failing that, you could go down the "oh 'eck! What the hell happened to us last night?" route...

Or if you REALLY can't decide... perhaps the 'Dads Army' route is more for you ;)

More pics to follow in the relevant threads...

Yeah i know the Thin Red Line was Army...was using it as my inspiration to do a pacific theatre impression. I like now they both look.

I know that Dog Co. is getting some of the uniforms used in 'The Pacific'. But just dont know when that will be.

Im at the Gunman event this weekend so i'll see about some pics..

You are playing Americans, do what they did.....shoot each other. Isn't that the whole point of the choice of island? :slap:

Ah i'd not heard of Kiska.

Totally unsurprising story though.

Son Tay prison anyone.. Kiska reminds me of the most glorious raid in US history, on an empty prison.

Months spent building a replica of the camp and practising rescuing the POWs during which no one actually bothers to check its still being used before they raid it. Mind you an improvement on Kiska as i dont think anyone killed each other at Son Tay.

(on a footnote, doing an article on Bradleys the other day i was staggered to find out that out of the 20 destoryed in gulf war I only THREE were to enemy fire, the other 17 were blue on blue.. Christ that's epically bad CCC.)

Is that the origin of the joke (but with hellicopters, Bradley's are tanks no?) that during the Gulf the Americans flew more accidently into hills then the Brits lost in action?

Or is that just a silly joke? :giggle:

Back on track, vaguely, a credible way to do a far east game with 'no japs' is to have the defending jap force consist entirely of camouflaged interlocking wood bunkers dug in. Time consuming and tricky (perhaps more so that making the uniforms instead) but would give you a realistic skirmish.

Not sure about the joke, its not that impossible, all the best jokes have a grain of truth in them.

Bradleys are personel carriers btw.

Or as Japanese, we book a heavily wooded site, get there two days before the Yanks, boobytrap the entire site then bugger off?0

Well in fairness I have been party to games before where players have been told they are about to be ambushed or in a minefield etc and its there is nothing of the sort about.

Hilarious watching folk tip toeing through the 'minefield' at first and only... ;)

So more like tanks than helicopters.

Or as Japanese, we book a heavily wooded site, get there two days before the Yanks, booby-trap the entire site then bugger off?

And not tell the Yanks, so they think we are there... Oh, wait. I'm the Yanks. :slap:

I am sure that at some point there will be a Pacific game, but everyone with an interest has their interest in the Allied side. If it was Chindits, then I would want to be them. If it was US infantry then I would be them. I would be Japanese against Marines though.... Not sure why, well I don't like the cameo pyjamas for a start. And there is something else...

Actually, i've got no interest whatsoever in Pacific Allied sides, so i'd quite happily play as Japanese in a Pacific theatre game.

I have some interest in the Brit side of things but I'd still probably go Japanese. I like Gadge's idea of having a load of camouflaged bunkers though, sounds like an excellent idea to me. Those that did have Jap gear could operate outside the bunkers, those without could wear look alike stuff (cheap jap cap(the type with the neck cover- i'm sure there must cheapo ones of these) , kahki shirt & trousers) and stay hidden. A few could also play as snipers dressed up like trees in the style you see in all the films and games to hide their look a like kit. The combination fo snipers, booby traps and hidden bunkers could really mess with the allied players' heads. This sort of thing would be good for a Vietnam game as well.

Stems from tabletop wargaming.

A lot of vietnam games (and a few PTO) ones only require you to have miniatures for the allied forces, a referee controls hidden bunkers.

The main issue is the health and safety aspect of hiding in trees and finding a site that will

a) be stupidly overgrown and jungle like
b) Let you dig in
c) Not be wet enough to swamp any fortifications.

You also need several hundred man hours to build even a dozen bunkers if you intend to dig in. Less of an issue if you make two foot high log ones you lie in.

Yes finding a suitable site would be a the biggest problem. Most seem to like building bunkers up rather than doing it properly and digging them down( My local site is heading the right way as the landowner is only too happy to help with his digger but it will take time as its not even a year old yet). Plus alot of bunkers tend to be sited in spots that make for good gaming rather than in places that would be more logical for a defensive position.
Then of course there is the problem of getting them overgrown enough to be completely hidden when every couple of weeks the open dayers will be piling in an out of them.
